How to Get an OMMA Card if You Live Near Roland

Everything at our counter runs through the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. Here's the short version of getting licensed if you're on this side of the state line, and what Arkansas patients need before they cross it.

If you live in Oklahoma

You need to be an Oklahoma resident with proof of residency and a valid state ID or driver's license. Get a physician recommendation from an Oklahoma-licensed doctor — plenty of clinics around Sallisaw, Muldrow and Fort Smith's Oklahoma side handle these in a single visit.

Apply online through the OMMA portal with the recommendation, your ID, a clear photo and proof of residency. The state application fee is set by OMMA and reduced rates apply for Medicaid, Medicare and 100% disabled veterans. Approvals typically come back within a couple of weeks, and the license is good for two years unless your doctor writes a shorter term.

Patients under 18 need two physician recommendations and a parent or legal guardian to act as caregiver.

If you live in Arkansas

An Arkansas card alone will not work at our register. Oklahoma requires out-of-state patients to hold an OMMA temporary patient license on top of their home-state medical card. It's a separate, short-term license you apply for through OMMA, and it's valid for a limited period — check the current term when you apply.

Bring both the temporary license and your home-state card, plus a photo ID that matches. Fort Smith and Van Buren are about fifteen minutes from our door once you're licensed.

What to bring the first time

Your OMMA card (physical or the digital version), a matching government photo ID, and cash or a debit card. We'll verify your license at the counter or at the drive-thru window — it takes a few seconds.

If anything about the process is confusing, call the Roland store and ask. Our staff walk people through this every week and nobody is going to rush you.

Common questions

Can I get an OMMA card the same day near Roland?

You can usually get the physician recommendation the same day at a local clinic, but the state approval comes from OMMA afterward and typically takes up to a couple of weeks.

Do Arkansas patients need anything besides their home-state card?

Yes. Oklahoma requires an OMMA temporary patient license alongside the home-state medical card, plus a matching photo ID.

How long is an Oklahoma medical marijuana license valid?

Standard patient licenses are valid for two years unless the recommending physician specifies a shorter term. Temporary licenses for out-of-state patients are much shorter.
