Moon Rocks: Flower, Concentrate and Kief
A moon rock is a cannabis bud dipped or coated in concentrate and then rolled in kief. It is three products stacked into one, which makes it substantially more potent than the flower it started as and considerably more awkward to smoke.
- Made of
- Whole bud, concentrate coating, kief exterior
- Sold as
- Individual coated buds by weight
- How to smoke
- Broken by hand or scissors into a bowl, not ground
- Best for
- Experienced patients with an established tolerance
Why a grinder is the wrong tool
A moon rock is sticky the whole way through. Put one in a grinder and most of the concentrate and kief ends up coating the teeth rather than in your bowl, which is a waste of the expensive part of the product.
Break them apart by hand or with scissors into pieces small enough to sit in a bowl. Leave the pieces chunky; they are not meant to be reduced to a fine grind.
Because they are damp with concentrate, moon rocks do not stay lit the way dry flower does. Expect to relight, and expect a slower, heavier burn.
Potency and pacing
Stacking concentrate and kief onto flower pushes total cannabinoid content well above what the underlying bud tests at. There is no way to estimate the finished number from the strain name alone, which is why the label matters here.
Our staff treat moon rocks the way they treat infused pre-rolls: a small amount, then wait. It is very easy to load a full bowl out of habit and find that habit does not apply.
They also burn hot. A screen in the bowl and slow, gentle draws produce a much better experience than a hard pull on a fresh light.
Storage and handling
Keep moon rocks in a rigid container. In a bag they compress into a single mass and the kief coating rubs off onto the plastic.
Cool and dark, as with any concentrate-bearing product. Warmth softens the coating and makes the whole thing stickier to handle.
Availability rotates. When we have them in the case at Colcord or Roland they appear on the live menu, and the reservation system holds the exact package under your name.
Pick it up in person
What is on the shelf changes as producers finish new batches, so the live menu is the accurate list for each store. A valid OMMA card and matching photo ID are required at pickup.
Common questions
How strong are moon rocks?
Considerably stronger than the flower underneath them, since concentrate and kief are both added on top. The finished figure is on the package — check it rather than assuming.
Can I put moon rocks in a joint?
You can, mixed with regular flower to help it burn. On their own they tend to go out repeatedly inside a paper.
Do moon rocks count as flower for OMMA limits?
They are sold and counted by weight as flower with concentrate applied. Our checkout categorises them for you so your cart stays inside the legal amounts.
Why did my moon rock keep going out?
The concentrate coating holds moisture and burns slowly. Frequent relighting is normal, and a screen helps hold the pieces in place while they smoulder.
